Constipation means no stools for days or passing hard stools. Constipation is generally described as having fewer than three bowel movements in a week. Chronic constipation can lead to piles (haemorrhoids), anal fissures (torn skin in your anus) or it may lead to rectal prolapse.
Causes of constipation:
Not eating enough fibre in diet.
Older people mostly suffer from constipation due to inactivity.
Inadequate intake of water.
Some medications like iron and calcium tablets.

Nux vomica: Constipation due to intake of iron, calcium tablets or any other medications. Unstaisfactory stools. Frequent ineffectual desire, but passing small quantities at a time. Scanty stool with much urging.
Bryonia: Constipation; stools hard, dry, as if burnt, seem too large. Mucous membranes are all dry. Abnormal hunger, loss of taste. Thirst for large quantities of water.
Lycopodium: Constipation in elderly people or due to sedentary lifestyle. Stools hard, difficult, small, incomplete. Inactive intestinal canal. Ineffectual urging.
Alumina: Constipation due to dryness of intestines. No desire for stools for days. Stools hard, knotty. Even a soft stool is passed with difficulty.
Natrum muriaticum: Stools on alternate days. Constipation; stool dry and crumbling. Burning pains and stitching after stool.
Tips to prevent constipation:
Drink enough water everyday.
Avoid sedentary lifestyle.
Try to include lot of fibre in your diet.
Increase intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, whole grains, legumes and seeds.
